In pictures: Stars and fashion from the red carpet
Oscars red carpet: Stars and fashion in pictures If the Oscars gave out an award for best dressed, it would be the most hotly contested prize of the night. Hollywood's biggest stars turned on the style as they walked the red carpet for the glittering ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday. They included One Battle After Another's Chase Infiniti (below), who has announced herself as both a major actress and a fashion icon this year, and who wore a lavender custom Louis Vuitton gown.
Hamnet star Jessie Buckley capped off an awards campaign for the ages in red and pink - a change from her usually subdued colour palette. British actress Wunmi Mosaku, nominated for best supporting actress for Sinners, cradled her baby bump in a glittering gown with a cut-out shoulder. Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, nominated for Sentimental Value, has favoured Louis Vuitton throughout her awards season campaign. For the Oscars, she wore a simple yet striking custom red Louis Vuitton dress by Nicolas Ghesquiere. Demi Moore, last year nominated for her daring comeback role in The Substance, went full-on in feathers in a Gucci creation. Best actress nominee Emma Stone arrived in a shimmering oyster Louis Vuitton gown.
Teyana Taylor, as notable in awards season for her fashion choices as her performance in One Battle After Another, wore black-and-white custom Chanel. One Battle After Another star Leonardo DiCaprio opted for a traditional black tuxedo, while fellow best actor nominee Timothée Chalamet, nominated for Marty Supreme, went for all white. Sinners star Michael B Jordan ended up beating them both to the best actor award.
Pedro Pascal's oversized white floral brooch was so large he had no room for his bow tie or tuxedo.
Hamnet actor Paul Mescal came with his girlfriend, singer Gracie Abrams. Sinners star Li Jun Li turned heads in a sleek swirled Gaurav Gupta creation. Hamnet director Chloe Zhao wore one of the night's most dramatic outfits - a theatrical black design complete with gaping bell sleeves and veil by Gabriela Hearst. Weapons star Amy Madigan won best supporting actress, four decades after her last (and only other) Oscar nomination, for Twice in a Lifetime. Marty Supreme star Odessa A'zion (below right) walked the red carpet wearing an embellished black gown, alongside best supporting actress nominee Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (left), from Sentimental Value. Lilleaas's co-star and fellow nominee Elle Fanning wore a white princess gown by Givenchy. Jack O'Connell sported some vampire vangs in keeping with the theme of Sinners. Last year's best actress winner Mikey Madison appeared to have matched her velvet gown to the red carpet. The stars behind the KPop Demon Hunters music - Rei Ami, Ejae, and Audrey Nuna – walked the red carpet before performing their mega-hit Golden during the ceremony. Marty Supreme actress Gwyneth Paltrow, dressed in a white gown cut down the side, presented a category during the ceremony.
Australian actor Jacob Elordi was nominated for best supporting actor for Frankenstein.
He returned to the Oscars this year as one of the category presenters. One Battle After Another star Regina Hall opted for a black and gold gown.
F1 star Damson Idris looked smart in an ink blue overcoat with furry lapels and a jewelled brooch.
Last year's best supporting actress winner Zoe Saldaña returned, wearing a lingerie-inspired Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello dress.
KPop Demon Hunters producer Maggie Kang was radiant in red.
Director Spike Lee, with wife Tonya Lewis Lee, showed his distinctive style with a suit featuring a purple fedora hat and matching bow tie, and a bag made of silver cassettes. Bella Thorne decided to go with a black feathered cuffs and a sheer slip.
Ballet star Misty Copeland's monochrome outfit featured a playful tutu. She danced on stage at the ceremony during the performance of the nominated song from Sinners.
Fashion star Heidi Klum was also among the stars walking the red carpet.
Actress Alicia Silverstone appeared in Bugonia opposite Emma Stone.
Amelia Dimoldenberg, who returned to the Academy Awards as red carpet reporter and social media ambassador for the third year in a row, wore a sculptural black Ralph Lauren column gown, Jimmy Choo shoes and Bvlgari jewellery. By Ian Youngs, Steven McIntosh, Scarlett Harris and Lucy Talavera
