'Horror on the street' and 'Fears grow over shortages' The Daily Telegraph reports that the NHS is to "ration" hospital referrals as part of efforts by the government to cut waiting lists.

GPs have apparently been ordered to consult on at least a quarter of their referrals rather than sending people to hospital.

Experts fear the move will be "awful" for patients.

An NHS spokesperson has told the paper the approach will help support clinical decision-making.

The Guardian says its own analysis of NHS data shows the health service in England is set to miss key targets for treatment, leaving patients facing persistently long delays.

According to the Times, just ten doctors have prescribed more than half of all cannabis drugs since they were legalised for medical use in the UK in 2019.

The paper says there are concerns that some clinics may have been set up to prescribe patients with what they say they want, irrespective of whether there is any evidence that cannabis can help with their complaint.

The Department for Health said it expected regulators to crack down on private clinics that prescribed without the prior research required.
