Over the past 20 years, the quality of democracy in the United States has seen significant shifts and challenges. Issues such as political polarization, the influence of money in politics, and voter suppression have raised concerns about the health of our democratic system. The rise of social media and misinformation has also played a role in shaping public opinion and trust in institutions. As a history teacher, I have witnessed firsthand how these factors have impacted the way citizens engage with the democratic process. It is crucial for us to continue educating ourselves and our future generations about the importance of upholding democratic values, respecting diverse perspectives, and actively participating in our democracy to ensure its strength and integrity for years to come.
